Scottish Summer Wedding: what’s on the menu?

Published By Crush Admin on 20/07/2017

Planning a summer wedding in Edinburgh? Well, you may have the dress, the rings, even the venue sorted, but what about the food? You are pretty spoiled in Scotland for the wonderful food and delicious dishes you can offer your guests. With this in mind, we have put together a list of some of the biggest trends at the moment, so take a look below.

Drip Wedding Cakes

The wedding cake is always a popular focal point at a wedding, and lots of thought will be put into it to make sure that it is just right. Drip cakes are bang on trend right now, and decorating with flowers is a popular choice. You could make a feature of this, and use the Scottish thistle as your decoration, as this would draw plenty of attention to the roots that you’re so proud of.

Paired Canapes

Canapes are almost a given at any wedding, but it is now more common to have them paired with a tiny drink, too. You should try having a mixture of alcoholic and soft drinks for this, and you could make the most of your local Scottish whiskey to make sure your home country is well represented at your wedding.

Alternate Wedding Cakes

Many couples planning their wedding in Edinburgh make their wedding cake the centre piece of their menu. But you don’t have to follow the crowd when it comes to the wedding cake that you choose, as it has to be about who you are and what you like as a couple. For this reason, you may like to consider the idea of having an alternate wedding cake. Many couples have had pizza, donut or pie cakes – and if that’s what you enjoy eating, then why not? If you have a favourite locally made food then it may be worth getting in touch with the company who makes it, to see what they could do for you. This means that it would be completely authentic, and would certainly be impressive.

The main thing to think about at your wedding is what you enjoy eating, and how you can tie this into the wedding that you have planned. If you have a theme then the food should be linked in with this, as it can draw everything together in an impressive way. Lots of people spend their time thinking about what people may expect to be served at a wedding, but it is much better to do what you want instead – because your wedding is your day, and everything should be planned with this in mind.
