ABOUT THE ORCHESTRA

The Edinburgh University Jazz Orchestra (EUJO) is a premier 17-piece big band composed of talented jazz musicians from the University of Edinburgh. Established in 1987 as the Edinburgh University Dance Band, it evolved into EUJO, becoming a cornerstone of the university’s musical landscape.

Throughout the academic year, EUJO delivers dynamic performances at notable venues such as The Jazz Bar on Chambers Street, The Balmoral, The Pleasance Cabaret Bar, and Potterrow. Their annual flagship event, “Jazz Club Time Machine,” is a highlight, consistently selling out and showcasing the ensemble’s versatility and energy.

EUJO’s repertoire spans classic big band standards to contemporary jazz compositions, reflecting their commitment to musical excellence and innovation. The orchestra actively engages in collaborations, masterclasses, and tours, enriching the cultural fabric of the university and the broader Edinburgh community.

EUJO’s dedication to jazz education and performance has solidified its reputation as one of Scotland’s leading university jazz orchestras, contributing significantly to the preservation and progression of the jazz tradition within the academic setting.
