ABOUT THE ROBIN CHAPEL CHOIR

The Robin Chapel Choir is a professional ensemble who sing a choral service at 4pm every Sunday. The choir have also performed a number of services and events outside the chapel including concerts in Holyrood Palace, the closing service for the Edinburgh Sacred Arts Festival and the Lord Provost’s Christmas Reception. A recent highlight was a visit to Westminster Abbey following an invitation to sing at the service to receive the Stone of Destiny the week before the Coronation.

The Robin Chapel is a Grade A listed building and inter-denominational chapel, built in memory of Robin Tudsbery, a Lieutenant in The Blues and Royals, who was killed on active duty at the very end of World War II. It is located on Queen’s Walk in the Craigmillar area of Edinburgh and sits within a housing development (Thistle Foundation), built for disabled service personnel. Nowadays, the charity offers a variety of services to people with disabilities and health conditions

It is a beautiful chapel in the arts and crafts style. The attractive interior is enhanced by stone capitals carved by Maxwell Adam; wood carvings by Thomas Good and wrought-iron work by James Finnegan. The finely detailed stained glass by Sadie McLellan, depicts scenes from John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’s Progress”.

The Robin Chapel was completed in 1953, and was dedicated in the presence of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. Her Majesty The Queen attended the sixtieth anniversary service of the dedication of the chapel in July 2013, accompanied by Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex. The Sovereign’s Standard of The Blues and Royals was laid up in The Robin Chapel on 4 October 2015.

Details of our choral services can be found on the Chapel website www.robinchapel.org.uk, as well as on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
